Bunny Hollow

Yesterday I "forced" Angus to come out for a walk in the afternoon with me.  We'd been having a quiet day - we seem to need a few down days at present.

We headed down the few blocks to Jericho Beach Park for was our first visit there - pretty pathetic seeing as it was proximity to the beach and walks along it, which was the impetus for my choosing this suite we're staying in.

It's beautiful there: a beach on the harbour, with snow capped mountains on the other side, the city in the background, people running, walking dogs, dogs running, walking people, the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, and ...bunny hollow.  Bunny Hollow looks something like I imagine Wimbledon Common to look - the Wimbledon Common where the Wombles live, at least.  It has lots of small hillocks, a bit like a mogul ski course but with fine, soft green grass instead of snow. It's surrounded by brambles (blackberries), has little walking tracks through it, and in the middle is a green, flat clearing.  The term 'heath' seems to fit it, in my mind.  It isn't a huge area though, maybe 100 metres in diameter in the middle of the beachfront park, but it feels very separate.

And it's full of bunnies!  Tons of them.  Not rough, coarse Australian rabbits, but soft, beautiful, velvety northern hemisphere bunnies.   Though they are wild, they eat from your hand, if you have the right food.  We didn't yesterday, they scorned our lettuce leaves (which was fair enough really, as we'd scavenged them from a pile someone else had brought before us, through which the bunnies had already sorted and taken what they wanted) but we went back to day to seek their approval of some alternative offerings.   We brought carrots.  They approved.

We spent hours there both days, yesterday more on the beach, building structures, as we didn't find bunny hollow til on the way back from seeing if the Sailing Club was open for dinner (it wasn't - weekends only at this time of year); and today more in bunny hollow with a shorter beach walk.

Angus told me yesterday I needed to "force" him to come for walks with me again, as it was great.

We also went to the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park today, which was very good too.
